General Surgery
Pine Medical Group's Board Certified General Surgeons perform a large variety of surgeries such as breast biopsies, mastectomies, appendectomies, bowel re-sections, bladder repair, hiatal hernia repair, anti-reflux, vein surgery, and many more. The large surgeries are performed at Gerber Memorial Health Services, but smaller procedures such as vasectomies and flexible sigmoidoscopies are performed onsite at Pine Medical Group.

Dr. Douglas Johnson was raised in Fremont and has served Pine Medical Group’s patients since 1991. He works in the Fremont office. He is a graduate of Spring Arbor College and Wayne State University in Michigan. He served as a surgeon in the United States Air Force in Misawa, Japan from 1988 to 1991, and prior to college, he was a medic in the US Army. He and his wife have two children and live in Fremont.

Dr. Jennifer McAlister is a graduate of Michigan State University and joined Pine Medical Group’s Fremont office in July 2005. She lives in Grant with her husband and two children, and enjoys cooking and playing tennis. |

Dr. Theodore VanderKooi was raised in the Zeeland area and joined Pine Medical Group’s Fremont office in 2000. He is a graduate of Calvin College and University of Michigan. He loves spending time with his wife and children, and likes to relax by working in his tool shed and doing “handyman” jobs around his house.
