What the Patient Advocate can do for you:
- She sets up payment agreements for patients who prefer to pay off their balances in increments.
- She sits down with patients and tries to help them understand their medical bills.
- She coordinates the “Sliding Fee Scale” application process which allows medical discounts for uninsured patients, depending on their qualifications.
- FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) paperwork, disability forms, workman’s compensation, paperwork-paperwork-paperwork! She helps complete paperwork and forms of this type for patients.
- She asks that patients give her as much time as possible to complete the paperwork prior to their needing the time off of work.
- She asks that the patient try to be present when she completes the paperwork, as the patient typically knows most of the answers and can expedite the completion process.
